The first successful fantasy specialist publishing house. August Derleth and associates, who, in a fit of pique at being turned down by regular publishers with the Lovecraft Memorial volume The Outsider and Others, decided to publish it themselves (December 1939). Several other volumes of weird fiction have been produced in addition to various books of Lovecraft & -iana. AH does not, of course, do the actual printing and binding of its publications.
